Dear Nurse Ansalong:
I am completely obsessed with a fellow cast member. I see him every week and we are not exactly close but we are friends. I know we will never be anything more than friends, and now it's getting too painful to go to Rocky anymore and see him. What should I do? What should I say? What should I wear?

Columbia, obsessions are a double-edged sword. They can be a source of wonder and amazing feelings, but, as you are beginning to see, they can also lead to problems. Those problems tend to start when you realize that the object of your obsession doesn't feel the same as you. There are no easy solutions for your problem, but here are a couple ideas for you to try. This might be something that scares you to death, but you might want to talk to him. You don't have to tell him about your feelings. All you need to do is have a normal conversation with him. To have a conversation with him might help you to see him not as an obsession, but as a person. You can try to redirect the energy that usually goes toward "your obsession". If you perform on a regular basis, focus on your character in the show and rehearse it or update and fix your costuming. If you don't have to talk to him at the show, then try to avoid him during the nights that you perform. This might feel like you're running away from the problem, but the time that you have away from the person will help to lessen the obsession. There is one thing that I would recommend as a last resort. If nothing else has worked and you're still having trouble seeing him at Rocky, then you might need to take a little vacation from the show to help get your mind straightened out. In situations like this, I always tell people that their mind can be their own worst enemy. The more your mind pulls out your obsessions, the harder it gets to move past them. Try to move past the obsession and on with your romantic life. I bet that there are many men waiting in line to take you out that you haven't seen because your obsession has clouded your vision. And, what to wear...hmmmmm, if you are the same as your name, then I bet you'll have on a sequined top hat and tail coat. But, if you don't mind, can I wear the sequined tap shoes?
