Dear Nurse Ansalong:
My parents are totaly out of Rocky Horror. I'm 13 2/3 years old, and my
Mom and Dad think it's just a phase. More like hope. Anyway, they've
never even seen it, except my Dad, whose only seen parts, but, if they
did sit down and watch the video, I'm sure it would make no difference.
I'm sure ten years from now I'll be as into Rocky as I am now, if not
moreso. I will admit i may talk about it a little much and listen to the
music a little often, but i'm trying to cut down. God, I sound like a
drug addict. How do I make my parents understand? And please don't just
say sit down and talk to them. I've tried.

Franky, if talking hasn't worked, then you might want to try some
action. Sit down with your parents and watch the film together. They
might still be confused, but at least they'll know what you're talking
about. If you're interested in playing Frank, rehearse the part like
you're getting ready for an actual performance. If any of your friends
are interested, have them come over and play the other parts along with
you. If you know how to sew, then try and create a costume of your own.
The more work that your parents see you putting into Rocky, the more
inclined they might be to trying to understand your interest. But, don't
think you'll ever totally change their minds. I've been performing for a
long time, and my parents still think it's weird. Sometimes, it just
takes a lttle time to change someone's mind.
