Dear Nurse Ansalong:
How do I let someone know that I'm interested in them? I'm not a very forward person, so it's hard for me to do this kind of thing.
-Frustrated
Frustrated, there are more ways than I know of to tell someone that you are interested in him/her. If you're shy or nervous, then you might want to try something creative. For a lot of women, myself included, and even some men, flowers are a very nice way to show interest. The day one of my ex-boyfriends sent me a dozen red roses to my work is something I'll never forget. If you're scared of having to talk to someone in person, then try a letter or a card. When filled with emotion, the written word can be just as powerful as the spoken. For a shy person, speaking to someone that you're attracted to can be difficult. If you decide to tell the person how you feel, then don't worry about it or rehearse a speech to give. The more prepared you are for the moment might take away any surprise out of the moment. Also, a person who talks with emotion when they tell someone their feelings tends to feel more truthful than someone who runs off his memorized speech. Please don't be scared of telling someone how you feel. If the person feels the same for you, then he/she will know that what you are saying comes from the heart.
