Dear Nurse Ansalong:
I was watching Rocky once and I realized something: you either love this movie, or you hate it with a passion! What do you think it is about this movie that draws us to it? That makes us watch it obsessivly? It has everything we were taught to hate: adultry, sex, canabolism, gay & bi people, insest! Please help me cure the pondering.

Kewl, the answer to your question appears in almost every article about Rocky Horror. When they talk about the film and it's surrounding fan base, they almost always use the phrase, "The most successful cult film of all time." With anything, be it films, sports, music, or whatever else you can think of, there will always be those people who don't like or understand it. Everyone who is involved in Rocky has their own reasons why the do it. For me, Rocky is fun. I remember my first show like it was yesterday. I went in totally scared, but, once I was inside the theatre, I began to relax. By the time the film started, I was having fun. When I joined that same cast, I fell in love with performing for the audience, no matter how big or small it was. While the story has all of those "evil" things that you mention, a main reason that I think that Rocky keeps going and brings people back week after week is the central message in the film, "Don't dream it. Be it." When you or I go to see Rocky, we are welcome, no matter what our size, shape, sex, or color. In the time that I've been a performer, I've seen prom dates, gang members, housewives, grandparents, and anyone else that you can imagine come to see the film. In a world that tends to try to fragment everyone off, this is a place where everyone can come in, be themselves, and have fun. This idea of tolerance for everyone's differences is something that I think we need.
