Dear Nurse Ansalong:
In the movie Shock Treatment, why does everyone start to refer to Cosmo as "Mac" about halfway through the movie?
-Amy R
Amy, no one refers to Cosmo by his first name to his face and, in the actual script, all of Cosmo's lines are labelled as "Mac". The name "Mac" is short for "McKinley", Cosmo's last name. Nation is the first one to call him "Mac" right after he introduces himself as "Cosmo McKinley". The only people who refer to him in the third person using a name are Nation ("Mac's waiting in the wardrobe, Janet") and Janet ("Mac just whipped up this little crowd pleaser). The name "Mac" probably came from the way he felt about the character or thought of him. I guess you can think of it as a term of affection...
