Dear Nurse Ansalong:

I took music lessons from the same man for almost six years. We got along very well. My family and I even went with him to New York a few times. He helped me with all of my weddings, auditions, shows, etc. One day, I was asked to travel to Florida to sing with a group of people. He seemed to resent me after that. He planned a group music lesson on the day we were taping our audition video for Florida. I had to miss it and he got very upset. He told me that I would have to apoligize to the rest of the group for missing the lesson. Eventually, he kicked me out. Now everyone askes me if I recomend him for lessons. I don't know what to say to them. I hated him as a person, but he was a great teacher in the begining. What should I tell these people?
-Brandi

Brandi, I would tell them a slightly less direct version of what you said here. You could say that, while the two of you have had personal differences in the past, he is a good teacher if they wanted to sign up with him. If you want to tell them the entire story, then go ahead but be sure to tell them the truth as you experienced it. To have the problems between the two of you made even worse due to an errant remark would be extrememly bad.
