Zero, there is a point in every relationship, be it between friends or lovers, where truths come out. These could be anything from a woman telling her boyfriend that she really doesn't like baseball to her telling him about her past lovers. The truth that you have for your best friend is something all together different. It could either make your friendship stronger or break it up. Since he is your best friend, you know him better than probably anyone and you can also guess on how he would react to this kind of news. Most best friends will react in a good way. When I was in college, a good friend of mine who is a lesbian asked me if I wanted to go out on a date with her. I told her that I was flattered that she would ask me that, but that I was "straight" which meant that our relationship would stay as a friendship. We are still friends and talk regularly to this day. If this was a perfect world that we lived in, everyone's experiences would end as good as mine. I would advice you, if you think it won't hurt your friendship, to tell him. But, be prepared for whatever reaction you'll get, be it good, bad, or indifferent. If you are nervous about a bad reaction, you might want to try a more subliminal approach. Instead of telling him that you love him, tell him that you care for him deeply and that, if he ever needs someone, you'll be there for him. See how he reacts to this and, from that information, you can see how he would react to you telling him about your true feelings. Like I said before, be prepared for whatever happens, and make sure that your friend knows that, whichever way he feels, you will still be there for him. That's what best friends are for.
