Dear Nurse Ansalong:
My Mum think I am crazy. I have given up so much time this summer to organizing my ROCKY HORROR cast, practicing, and finding a theater. She says I'm wasting my life away! But Im not! I'm learning so much! And she just thinks I am crazy! Whenever I try to explain it to her, she always leads to another aspect of what's wrong with me, and never let's me fully explain! I love my mom and I want her to understand why I love ROCKY HORROR too!
-Princess Frankie

Frankie, it sounds like you need to start doing some of your cast's prep work right in front of your Mom. It sounds like all she knows is what you tell her or what she might see peripherally while you're working. If you try to bring more of that work into her vision and let her see what you're doing and learning, she might understand why you're working so hard. Have a costume to sew? Then ask if you can do it at the kitchen table. Need to rehearse some of Magenta's movements? See about using the family room and the main television and VCR. If you let her see all that you're doing and learning as you work, then she might realize why you're doing all the work and might be a little more excepting.
