Dear Nurse Ansalong:
I obsess over famous celebrities. I know I'll never meet them or anything like that. First I usually see a movie of theirs, then look up websites dedicated to them (to find out more about them), and finally I get depressed over them. I get depressed because, I guess, it makes me feel that I will never meet anyone special and that I will spend my life alone and that scares me. I can't really help getting depressed over them. I try but sometimes it feels like when I try not to like them, I get more depressed. Is there anyway to stop obsessing over celebrities or at least stop getting depressed over them?
-Frannie

Frannie, while it is normal to be a fan or a certain celebrity, it can be bad if you obsess to the point of feeling depressed if you don't get to meet them. We all obsess over different people that we are attracted to. I've been like that too. I'll fill up my computer's bookmarks with web sites about that person and check them on a regular basis just to see if there's been a bit of an update. But, even while I'm checking out all of this stuff on a given performer, I try to make sure that the feelings that I have for this person don't blind me from the fact that the world around me is full of people just as interesting as the person up there on the movie screen. The person that you're obsessing over might never meet you, but there are people metaphoricaly right outside your door that want to get to know you. Keep this in mind as these feeling return and it might help you not to get so depressed. It might not change overnight, but if you keep trying, it'll start to be better.
