Dear Nurse Ansalong:
I have three questions about Burt from Shock Treatment: 1) Why does he sleep upright? 2) Why doesn't he know what morning is? 3) Was he just faking blindness, and if so, why did he go to seeing?
-Confused
Confused, there really isn't an answer for your first two questions. A possible explanation for the second one is in the third. Basically, Bert is faking his blindness throughout the film. This is proven by the fact that he tries to get a look at Janet while she's showering. He could see all along, but was using the glasses and cane as a cover. Which also refers back to his confusion about what morning is. He probably thought that, if he revealed that he knew about mornings and like things, the others might figure out his secret.
