Dear Nurse Ansalong:
I used to have a crush on a girl in my school, however, after I got to know her, I realized I like her a lot more as a friend then I would as a girlfriend. My problem is that I still get nervous of looking like an idiot around her, and now people are starting to think I have a crush on her. This can lead to other problems, as her boyfriend is a good friend of mine. What should I do to be more relaxed around her? Also, I am a bit of a closet crossdresser, but every time I "dress up", I feel guilty. What should I do about this, besides stop dressing up?
-Psicosis
Psicosis, emotions can be both a blessing and a curse. There are times that an emotional reaction can help you get through a problem. But, there are times like this, when your emotions can make you act in ways that you don't want to. It might feel impossible right now, but as time goes on, the same feelings that you have for her will be passed on to another girl. For now, try to breathe a little deeper which should keep your heartbeat relatively calm thereby hopefully keeping you from looking like an idiot. Also, depending on how close you are to your friend, if these problems continue or are as noticable as you say that they are, you might want to tell him your feelings of friendship for her so that he won't start to think anything is wrong.
About your guilty feelings when you crossdress, there could be a couple different reasons. You could be reacting to "society at large's" idea that people who crossdress are somehow wrong. Also, while you might enjoy crossdressing, you might be fealing bad as a part of nervousness about the behavior that you're exhibiting by crossdressing. Give it a little time and see what your feelings do over a long period of time. If you start to feel more comfortable with wearing women's clothes, than keep doing it. But be sure to give yourself the chance to broaden your experience.
