Dear Nurse Ansalong:
I am young, like 14, and I am having all these problems with my Mom. She yells at me for no reason and she makes me feel like I am nothing. She tells me that I am going to cause her death and that really makes me feel really good. I dont know what to say. I need someone to be here for me and I really dont have a question for you. I just need someone and need advice.
-Leighann

Leighann, I wish that all parents were nice and kind like out of some sitcom somewhere, but that's not true. For every "good" parent, there are a long list of ones that have problems dealing with their kids. From what you've described to me, it sounds like your Mom might fall into this second group. She might be stressed out in general or from what goes on in the rest of her life and anything that might come from you, however small or unintended it may be, could tip her personality into the anger area. One thing that you always need to remember is that, no matter what your Mom says, you are definately not a "nothing". You are a someone, a person, and someone who deserves to not have to put up with any hate or stress that your Mom is throwing at you. If you've tried to talk to her and nothing happened, you could try to talk to a sympathetic family member to try to at least get your feelings out. If you keep them bottled up, you might turn into someone like your Mom in the future. Telling this family member could also help by letting someone know what is going on in your house and then this person could be ready to help you if something drastic happens. I wish that I could be there to talk to you in person to help you feel better. Always remember to believe in yourself and don't let anything your Mom says change the way that you feel about yourself. If you have anymore questions or are just looking for advice, feel free to come back and ask me. ;)
