Dear Nurse Ansalong:
Every time I love a guy he gets a girlfriend. I don't understand it. I don't look that bad. So why do they always have to enter a monogomous relationship right before I can hook up with them?

Nation, it could be just bad timing on your part or it could be that you're not acting on the other person's advances towards you. If you're spending time with a guy and he seems interested in you, then don't wait around for him to ask you out. He could be confused by the "signals" that he's getting from you. These "signals" could make him think that you just like him as a friend. It is also possible that it could have been the wrong time for the two of you to meet. He could be looking for something in a girlfriend that you aren't or that he can't see. One of the hardest things to do in a relationship is to get it started. This might be a small consolation, but there are many women out here that have had the same thing happen. There was a guy that played Rocky on one of the old casts that I used to perform with and I really wanted to go out with him. Everybody said that he liked me to, but, to me, it just seemed like he wanted to be friends. Finally, after two weeks of being metaphorically knocked around the head by my friends, I decided to ask him out. I even bought roses to give to him (Yes, I'm a BIG romantic). When I finally got up the nerve to ask him that night, he said that he had asked out another girl on cast during the week and that they were now a couple. I felt like such an idiot as I stood there with the boquet of red roses that I had bought for him. That was probably one of the worst feelings that I've ever had in my entire life. So, don't think that you're all alone with this problem. We're all fighting it, and, if you give it enough time, you'll beat it in the end.
