Dear Nurse Ansalong:
I believe that it was moraly wrong for Riff to kill Frank. And Dr Scott's comment that it was "okay by him" is a great big oxymoron. I mean, what makes it right for Riff to kill Frank but wrong for Frank to kill Eddie? And also, why did he shoot Columbia too? That was totally unfair!
-Amy

Amy, it is wrong, both moraly and ethicly, to kill another person. When Riff kills Frank, it could be the build-up of all of the stress and violence, both actual and implied, that Riff has had to put up with while he "worked" for Frank. For me, there are two reasons that Dr. Scott says that Riff's actions are "okay by him". First, Dr. Scott can be seen as the voice of "normal" society. As it's been shown on many occasions, if the "normal society" doesn't understand something, they'll try to destroy it. Even though he gets sucked into the whole Floor Show like everyone else, he doesn't go into quite the degree as everyone else. For a better explanation of this, check out the same scene in the play's script. Second, it could be that Dr. Scott could be looking for just a little revenge on Frank for the killing of Eddie. After all that Frank did to his nephew, Dr. Scott could be looking for blood. The question of why he kills Columbia is a little harder to answer. For me, the main reason that he shoots her is because of her screaming. It could be that Columbia's scream startles Riff and he could also be thinking that, when he hears the yell, she could start running at him to try and stop him from killing Frank. I hope that I was able to answer your questions for you...
