Dear Nurse Ansalong:
I've noticed tha ta lot of nice girls are with these real jerk guys, and it makes me mad when I see the guys make fun of their girlfriends or, even worse, hit them. I am a pretty sensative guy, and I'm always nice to everybody (even people who are jerks to me). I don't understand why nice guys like me finish last. So far, I have never had a girlfriend or even a date. Girls just seem to think of me as more of a friend, and then THEY PAY for their boyfriend's dinner. I thought about becoming a jerk like these guys, but there's no way I could pull off that act-- I can't even think about that. What should I do?

Darkwing, this is a question that has been asked many times throughout the years. To me, one of the main points of attraction to another person is excitement; that rush of emotion that you get whenever you're with or think about the person. For many people, women included, that feeling of excitement can be so strong that it blinds the person from the truth of their situation. They could be looking at the guy through their "rose-colored" vision and think he's the best while he's actually doing all of the things that you've witnessed. The main thing that I would tell you would be to not give up and become like all of those jerks out there. At a young age (which it sounds like you're at), people don't tend to look for a stable person; they want the excitement. As these girls get older, they'll come around to see all of the good things that you have to offer to them. Also, don't give up on findinghat special someone but don't continually chase after someone who doesn't return your affections. To continue to wish for this person without any chance of winning them over is a waste of your time and emotion. Stay the same warm, nice, and caring guy that you are and I think the girls will come around. Hell, if I was a couple years younger... ; )
