Dear Nurse Ansalong:
There isn't a cast in my town that performs Rocky, I would be very eager to start up one, and to perform. There is a bit of a problem with me actually playing a part though. I'm overweight. This doesn't bother me in the least, I don't mind getting in the floorshow costume or any of that, but even though Rocky fans are generally more open-minded than most people I doubt anyone would enjoy seeing me in that kind of costume. I'm not one of those skiny people who constantly thinks that they're fat no matter how much weight they lose. I could play Eddie (I've played a dead man before--I'm female) I would just like to know your opinion on it.

~!~, my opinion actually goes either way on this question. Most of the casts that I have been on have tried to cast the performers that looked, both in body and costume, to the character in the film. This being said, one of my favorite all-time Magentas that I've ever seen perform was overweight. It sort of depends on the part and how you carry yourself. Don't feel like you have to have your costuming just like the "skinny" people on cast. If you're playing a character that wears a corset, then find one that fits the costume requirements and also doesn't constrict you. Also, try to get your performance to the point that they won't be thinking about your size. If they're too busy watching your performance, they won't care how heavy you are. Please don't feel like you're the only person who has a problem like this. When I was younger, I was overweight and, if I don't watch what I eat, I could balloon back up quickly. This is a problem that many people have, but if you take a couple simple steps, it should work out alright.
