Dear Nurse Ansalong:
I have been very good friends with a great guy I met online for a long time. We have chatted on the net and talked on the phone for hours on end about anything we can think of. We have discovered we are so much alike, it's frightning. We have sent pictures to each other, and we both think the other is attractive. Now he is coming to visit me soon and I am very excited and happy to meet him. (Not to worry, I am an old hand at meeting online friends safely, not that I think anything would happen). Our problem is, though we both like each other very, very, much, we live in different states. I wish we could be together and see where this relationship takes us, but that probably isn't going to happen. Do you have any ideas on how to help let my heart down gently?
-Clarissa

Clarissa, when you really like someone, it's never an easy thing to get over those feelings. It's very rare when you find someone special in the world, so moving on after it's "over" could take you some time. Before you throw away any chance for a relationship, you might want to sit down and think for a moment. If you care for him deeply and he feels the same for you, you should definately think about whether or not you want the relationship to end at all. It takes a little extra work and trust in the other person, but there have been many succesful relationships that had to stretch across great distances. If he's special enough for you to meet him and you are important enough to him for him to travel to meet you, then he could be special enough to try to keep the relationship going, even over the miles.
