Obsessed, Richard played an Apostle and a leper. He quit the show after performing Herod in an Elvis style (the producer hated it and wanted him to go back to the previous actor's '30s style interpretation). Richard himself said his Herod was awful. For more information, you should check out the book "Cosmic Light" by Jim Whittaker. It's full of information about everyone involved in the film and a really great read.
