Dear Nurse Ansalong:
I am sixteen and have never been on a date. I finally asked a girl out and we are going out saturday. I am really nervous, and feel I may be obsessing. I talk to her every day and all I can talk about to my friends is her. Is this normal?
-Duckman
Duckman, yes, you are obsessing, but everyone acted the same way when they were in your place. It's a big thing to ask another person out for the first time. We picture in our minds how perfect we'll be when we ask, but it usually comes out more emotional than we had planned. When something this big happens to a person, most of their attention gets directed to it. Also, the anticipation of what is going to happen to you on your first date is stiring the emotional pot inside you even more. You might want to ease off a little bit to your friends because they might not feel the same as you do right now. With experience, you'll be able to not get as obsessive as you sound, but it is totally healthy and okay to be that way. Remember to stay calm during the actual date and I think you'll be okay.
