Dear Nurse Ansalong:
There isn't a theater near me that shows ROCKY, and I spoke to the manager of a local theater about showing it. He got angry and said that every time it's shown, the screen breaks. There are other theaters in town, but the theater I spoke to is in a very good place (good part of town, right across from college, etc.) I could go to other theaters in town, but this one is perfect! What do you think I should do?

Hopeful Cast Member, first I would tell you to not get discouraged. Every person who has started their own cast has run into all different kinds of opposition. Next, I would tell you to sit down with the people that you currently have "on cast" and plan out ways to get the Theatre Managers interested. Being close to a college can help with your problems. If you can show that there is enough interest on campus to see the film, then this might also bring around the Managers to your way of thinking. If the Manager still has problems due to the possibility of theatre damage, offer to organize a security crew to guard against anyone causing trouble. There are many casts that have rules about not throwing anything at the cast or the screen. If they do, the person is warned and, on the second offense, they're thrown out. If this Manager just won't listen to you, then start looking at theatres closer to the original. You might need to start at a smaller theatre or one in a less desirable place, but, if you attract a big enough audience on a regular basis, you could be moving up to larger theatres at a rapid rate.
