Dear Nurse Ansalong:
Why does Dr. Scott get so mad at Frank when he says "or should I say Dr. VON Scott" ?
-Nate
Nate, there are several smaller plotlines running through the main story. One of them involves a possible past meeting between Frank and Dr. Scott. On Frank's green lab outfit, there is a pink triangle. Today, this is used as a symbol by many different gay and lesbian groups. But, during World War II, the same symbol was used by the Nazis to mark gays for deportation to the camps. Just like the Jews and the gypsies, gays and lesbians had to wear an armband at all times. Having this symbol on his outfit could mean that Frank has been on our planet for a very long time before the audience gets to meet him. When Frank realizes who is outside the castle, he yells at Brad and appears to know a lot more about Dr. Scott's past than he should. When he yells out the name during the dinner scene, it's Frank's attempt to show Brad and Janet just who their old friend actually is. Dr. Scott's reaction is his response to try and play off what has happened. If you look hard enough, you'll begin to see a lot more of these little pieces in the film.
