Kissy, from the interviews that I've read and the stories that I've heard, it appears that "Once In A While" was cut because it was just too slow. It was felt that another song in the middle section of the film, and a slow one at that, would have dragged out the film and could have caused the audiences attention to wander just before the major plot revalations. The song was actually recorded and filmed, but, so far, it's only appeared on the 20th Anniversary laser disc's additional section and at a couple conventions. With all of the films being rereleased with additional footage, there is the chance that it could be replaced in it's proper place within the film, but I don't think there is a large chance of that happening.
