Dear Nurse Ansalong:
Ok, this may sound very strange, but I am a huge fan of Tim Curry, and I think I'm in love with him. At first, I thought it was just another one of my normal 13 year-old 2 week crushes and it would go away soon, but it hasn't. I just love him more and more, and it's not just the whole Rocky thing. I love everything about him. I'm not asking if I have a chance with him or not. I'm not naive, I know the answer to that. But, is it possible to love someone you've never even met?
-Janet Wannabe
Janet, it's totally normal to feel an attraction to someone that you've never met before. Just look at all the people who swear that they are in love with a favorite performer, musician, or any public figure. With the way the media is today, we learn so much about the private lives of our heroes that we begin to feel like we know them, even if we've never actually met them. The problems with these feelings occur when a person has trouble separating their feelings from the reality of the world around them. This is where many people change from a fan into a fanatic, and that could be dangerous for everyone concerned. From what you've said, it sounds like, as my grandmother always says, "You've got a good egg on your shoulders." Please excuse her mixing metaphors; she just turned 90 but her hearts in the right place... ; )
