Dear Nurse Ansalong:
I got to know this guy that performs at ROCKY every weekend. We've been talking lately and I really like him and I feel I can tell him anything. The problem is that he's QUITE A FEW years older than me (11) to be exact. I'm 16, and I feel he's too old for me, but meanwhile, I cant stop thinking about him, telling all my friends about him and wondering why he has to be so much older than me. I don't know if I should just forget about him or what. What should I do?
-Jane
Jane, while the age difference between you two would look strange to some people in a dating relationship, it shouldn't stop your friendship with him. From the way you've described it, there is a special bond here and it would be a shame to see it broken. If you've found someone that you have fun being with and can confide in, then you shouldn't just "let him go". Try and be just his friend and see what happens. If the feelings that you have for him are just too strong, then you might have to separate. But before you totally break it off with him, give "friendship" a chance. There are some people who go through their entire lives without finding a "best friend". It sounds like to me that you've found one...
