Dear Nurse Ansalong:
Hi! I'm a ROCKY HORROR virgin and I REALLY want to see ROCKY. The closest city that plays it is about two hours away. I'm only thirteen so I can't drive. But for my 14th birthday, the only thing I really want is to see ROCKY in a theater. I don't know anyone who goes or would ever go, but do you have any suggestions of how I could convince my mother that she absolutely HAS to take me to ROCKY for my b-day?? Thanks!
-Trixie
Trixie, depending on your Mother, this might be a really easy or a really hard thing to do. There are a couple approaches that you could try. First, there's honesty. Tell her exactly what you've told me here. Secondly, you could try to bargin with her. Tell her that, if she takes you for your birthday, you'll do something around the house, like the dishes or some other form of work. This way she thinks she's getting something out of it too. Lastly, if your interested in acting, you could say that you want to see the live cast to see their performance. This way is kind of sneaky, but it could help her to understand why you want to go. When you do ask her, be ready to answer whatever questions she has about what she's heard about the film or the live show. If you have a video copy of the film, watch it with her so she has a little prior knowledge of the film's story and plot. The more you know, the more you'll be able to calm whatever fears or worries she has. It might take time, but I hope you get to see the show.
