Dear Nurse Ansalong:
The Sunday after Halloween is my birthday. I'll be 14. The Saturday after that, four friends, my Dad, a friend's Mom, and I are going to go see ROCKY HORROR in the theatre. I'M SCARED!!! First of all, I want to go as Frank. From your experience, how many people actually dress up? Second, what props are needed? Third, is it necessary to participate in the virgin sacrifices? Help me pleeeeeease!!!!!
-I'm Afraid, Very Afraid (Maybe, actually, nervousness?)

Afraid, it's perfectly normal to be nervous on your first trip to see ROCKY in the theatres. I still remember my first show... While the people that I went with were all dressed in very revealing outfits, i had on a t-shirt with a flannel shirt on top, jeans, and my Docs. I must have looked like the total "Anti-ROCKY" person! The more times I went to the show, the more comfortable I became. For you, i'd tell you to stay calm. I have been to see many different casts and none of them have forced anyone to do something that they don't want to. If there is an on-stage sacrifice, the MC will probably ask for volunteers from the audience. Most "volunteers" are "pushed up" by the people that they're with, so keep an eye on your friends! The amount of people dressing up tends to depend on the season and the audience there. If you want to dress up, I'd tell you to go for it. Don't worry if your costume isn't quite perfect or there are a couple Franks there. Always remember, "Don't dream it... Be it!" About the props that you will need, here is list of the most common and when they're used... 1) Rice-The wedding scene; 2) Squirt guns and newspapers-To simulate the rain and to cover your head during "There's A Light", but first make sure the theatre your going to allows sqirtguns; 3)Flashlight-During the chorus of "There's A Light"; 4) Noisemakers-To celebrate like the Transylvanians during the Creation Scene; 5) Toilet Paper-When Dr. Scott breaks through the lab's wall and Brad yells "Great Scott!"; and 6) Playing cards-When Franks says "Cards for sorrow, cards for pain" during "I'm Going Home".There are many casts that sell what are called "Survival Kits" that contain all or most of these. So, I hope that you have fun, that you'll go back again and again, and I can expect you to be Time Warping all night long! : )
