Dear Nurse Ansalong:
I have a big problem. I am 15 and I am a gay transvestite. When I was little, I used to put on nail polish, but, when I saw RHPS, I started wanting to be Magenta. So I bought a maid costume. Then it was Columbia in her pajamas (I got the same pair for Christmas). I am attracted to Bert Schnick and Columbia at the Floor Show. What should I do and where can I get an outfit like they wear in the floorshow?

Janet, this advice is coming from the woman who went through the utter hell of sewing her own Columbia outfits. Anyone who has had to do the same with any character will understand what I mean. There are some costumes, like the Magenta, Dr. Scott, Crim, and the Transylvanians, that are relatively easy to put together without much sewing. There are, however, a few costumes that require a lot of work. Columbia is one of them. There really isn't anything you can buy in a retail shop that will match the film's look, but it wouldn't hurt to try. There are a couple corset patterns at your local fabric store that you can get and use to sew your own. If you want something that will look as close to the film as you want, then sewing it yourself is the way to go. Check out other RHPS sites for pictures of the corset and look around the newgroups for discussions about costuming. And just be glad you aren't sewing Columbia's opening outfit. After sewing all those sequins, I didn't think I had any fingerprints left...
