Dear Nurse Ansalong:
What's with this DARK CITY movie that's comming out? What's the story line? Is O'Brien going to appear in it? Whats the scoop?
-Dr. Scott's Twin Brother
Twin, there has been many changes since I talked about this film last. The title appears to have been changed from DARK CITY to DARK EMPIRE. Also, the release date has been pushed back from mid September to October 17. There have been many different rumours floating around about this film's release. They include everything from a full theatrical release to a European theatre/US video only scheme. The basic plot line is that a man wakes up one day wanted as a serial killer with no memory of what happened. While all this is going on, a group called The Strangers, led by Richard O'Brien's character Mr. Hand, stop time and then rearrange the city and it's people to their liking. Along with Mr. O'Brien, the film stars William Hurt, Keifer Sutherland, and Jennifer Conelly and it's directed by Alex Proyas, the man who directed THE CROW. From the descriptions that I've heard, the special effects are suppossed to be very strange. In an article about the film in the latest issue of Cinemascape magazine, Richard O'Brien says that, everytime the city is shown, it's archetecture is slightly different, adding to the strangness and confusion of the film's story. That's about all I know right now, but, as I hear more, I'll be sure to pass it on to you.
