Dear Nurse Ansalong:
Recently, my mother told me and my friends that we should dress up as characters from RHPS for Halloween. So I told all my friends and we all made our costumes. I am Columbia and I got PJ's and Mickey Mouse ears and everything. The problem is, my friends parents are furious at my Mom now and won't let them dress up. See, we're 13 and 12 and they say we shouldn't even be watching RHPS. But we all have our costumes, and we were gonna do really great. We have a Frank, a Rocky, Janet, Brad, Magenta, Riff, and Columbia (me). I can't be Columbia by myself, and everyone really wants to dress up. So should we sneak out anyway, or is there a way we can convince our parents to let us go? Please help!!

Columbia, you've run into a very big problem. While some parents like Rocky or are, at least, excepting of it, there are many that don't agree. Also, your friend's parents might also be mad because they think that your Mom doesn't have the right to give their children the okay to do anything. You could sneak out, but that could be dangerous if you're caught or seen by someone who could tell your friend's parents. There are a couple things that you could try. First, you might want to try getting all of the parents together and showing them all of you in costume. While seeing only their son or daughter in costume might not change their mind, to see all of you together might sway them. Depending on the amount of work that all of you have put into your costumes, showing them together might also spark an interest in them towards your sewing skills. Secondly, depending on the character, you might want to pick a costume from a "less revealing" section of the film. The Columbia costume that you have chosen is a prime example of this. It's not revealing at all, but it fits the character and matches the film. You could get your Frank a green lab coat as part of his costume so he won't be as exposed as the other parents might be think. Lastly, if you're going out trick-or-treating in costume, you might want to ask a couple of parents to walk with you. This might calm their fears and it'll give the parents the knowledge that you aren't running around alone naked. I hope that you all get to wear your costumes and I wish that I could be there to see it. If we ever meet, we'll have to both wear our Columbia costumes and tap dance around everyone! :)
