THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW: Bootleg Soundtrack Album

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW:
Bootleg Soundtrack Album

*LP*
1978, RHPS 001

TRHPS Original Soundtrack album was not available domestically in the United States until around 1979. The only chance fans had of getting the soundtrack album was to get an imported copy from Europe, and even over there the album was pretty rare and in high demand. Considering how quickly the Rocky Horror cult grew after 1976, it's no surprise that a bootlegged album should appear during the height of TRHPS' success.

Since bootlegs are NOT official releases, it is always impossible to tell exactly how many copies of a bootleg are in existance. Some bootlegs see only 10-30 pressings, others have around 500 copies pressed. Then someone can bootleg the bootleg. For more information on bootlegs, see sft's Rocky Horror Bootlegs section.

It's impossible to tell how many copies of this bootleg are out there. (Since it's so rare, I'd guess that there aren't that many.) This review is based off the bootleg I have, but this is most likely NOT the only version of TRHPS Bootleg Soundtrack Album out there.

This record is a double album (on two LP's) that sounds as though someone just tape recorded the entire film. The sound quality is bad, but nowhere as bad as some other bootlegs I've heard. At times, you can tell that you're listening to a tape made from a film, because film scratches and skips are audible. The GOOD thing about this album is that it's the MONO version of the film. At times, certain long sections with no dialogue get really boring, (I'd rather watch the film), but this recording is more of a collector's item rather than something to listen to regularly.

Side 1 begins with 'Science Fiction/Double Feature' and ends with the elevator scene.
Side 2 begins with the lab scene and ends with the Frank/Brad bedroom scene.
Side 3 begins with 'Touch-A, Touch-A, Touch Me' and ends with Crim's pre-Floor Show speech.
Side 4 begins with 'Rose Tint My World' and ends with the instrumental 'The Time Warp' a.k.a. 'The Transylvanian Jam.'

The album's jacket is a very cheap cardboard sleeve with a really sad-looking set of lips. (Very much like the lips on the cover of The Christopher/Emery Company recording.) There is nothing on the back of the jacket, and the labels on the actual records are entirely white. The inner groove of each side has RHPS engraved with a number of the side it is (1-4). The records also do not have the individual songs cut into grooves, each side is one long track. (Like the vinyl pressing of TRHPS Audience Par-ti-ci-ation Album.)

This album is a nice novelty item, but stick to the official soundtrack albums, they're much more satisfying.

*****AVAILABILITY*****
Out-of-print, and almost non-existant anymore. VERY difficult to find, and really not worth the search.
