Dark Refrains is an extremely limited edition bootleg CD of miscellaneous Rocky Horror-related recordings which have yet to be released on CD, or have been released on CD, yet gone out-of-print. There were only 35 copies of this CD made and it was released at the same time as the limited edition collector's bootleg CD of TRHS: Norsk Versjon/Original Norwegian Cast album, and the two discs were released as part of a two-disc set.
The disc begins with 'The Rocky Horror Disco Show' by David & Roxana. Both sides of the original twelve-inch single are featured. This disc also features the classic track, 'Over At The Frankenstein Place' by The Richard O'Brien Crusade as well as both the vocal and instrumental recordings of 'Touch Me' by Belinda Sinclair. (All of these tracks have yet to see legit CD releases, and they are all must-haves.)
The disc then features three mixes of Anthony Head's cover of 'Sweet Transvestite' which is now out-of-print.
Dark Refrains also features three tracks by Little Nell previously unreleased on CD, and two songs from the Richard O'Brien/Richard Hartley musical The Stripper, and all six tracks released by Kimi And Ritz (Kimi Wong and Richard O'Brien).
Since this IS a bootleg CD, some of the sound quality on some of the songs is not all that great, but the producer of this CD used the best possible sources in the mastering of this compilation. This CD is a good companion to Songs From The Vaults.
ONE FINAL NOTE: There has been a sudden interest in this CD. Many people have written to me asking how to find a copy of this CD. As I have noted below, only *35* copies of this CD exist, I own 2 of those 35, and I think other people have more than one copy of it as well. This was a private bootleg release, and sanity for today features a page on this CD simply for informational purposes. There will NOT be another pressing of this CD, and you will not be able to find it in any store or from a dealer. Find someone who does own this disc, and ask them to copy it for you. Sadly, this is the only thing I can suggest until the people who own the rights to the music on this compilation see to it that these songs are legally re-issued.
*****AVAILABILITY*****
Only 35 copies of this CD exist, and they were all sold to die-hard Rocky Horror audiophiles and collectors. (I own 2 copies of it myself.) It is very unlikely that any of the owners of this CD will want to part with it anytime soon. The best I can suggest would be to find one of the people who own this CD and have it copied.
